span style="font-weight: 400;">Scott Fujita was born in Ventura, California on April 28th 1979. He was a standout athlete in three sports (football basketball, track and field and basketball) during his time at Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, CA before heading to the University of California, Berkeley. While of Berkeley, Fujita earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a degree in 2001. He graduated with the highest grade. Fujita also completed a second course with a focus on Business Administration. When he completed his last year of Berkeley, Fujita earned a Masters degree in Education.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fujita was initially an unofficial safety at Cal however, he was able to make the move to linebacker during his redshirt freshman. He was granted an athletic scholarship in the beginning the Sophomore year. As a Senior and Junior, Fujita started every game as a linebacker. He also received the honor of being named honorable mention All-Pac 10 and Academic All-Pac 10.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fujita was selected in the 5th selection of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Fujita played three seasons for the Chiefs under the direction of Head coach Dick Vermeil, and led the team in tackles between 2003 as well as 2004. Fujita was transferred with the Dallas Cowboys before the start of the 2005 season in which he was the coach of Bill Parcells.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">As an unrestricted free-agent in the off-season of 2006, Fujita was signed by the New Orleans Saints, reuniting with his former coach Joe Vitt and Sean Payton. Fujita was the Saints first free agent signing following the devastating hurricane Katrina that destroyed New Orleans and the Gulf South in the summer of 2005.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">In his first season with the Saints He was chosen as the captain of the defensive team by his teammates. He held the title for three seasons. He also was the top tackler for the team in 2007 and 2006. In 2009, Fujita has been named"the Saints' "Man of the Year" for his achievements to the field as well as in the community.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the four seasons that Fujita spent in New Orleans, the Saints were victorious in 2 NFC South Division championships, played at two NFC Championship games, and won Super Bowl XLIV over their rivals, the Indianapolis Colts.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the aftermath of winning in the Super Bowl, Fujita became an unrestricted, free agent and was the first acquisition from Mike Holmgren with the Cleveland Browns. He was the Browns defense captain during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Outside of the fields, Fujita dedicates a lot of his time to his local community, and several charitable organizations. Fujita is adamant regarding the planet, specifically the preservation and rehabilitation of the Gulf South. He also promotes equality of rights for members of the LGBT community, supports programs for adoption and is a fervent advocate of breast cancer awareness since the mother of his son is double woman who has survived breast cancer. Through his professional profession, Fujita has also worked with organizations working to help, inspire and improve life of kids with cancer and other health issues.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fujita is a member of the NFLPA Executive Committee as a Vice President since the year 2010.
