My personal story isn't a the most exciting one... I was born, went to college and then worked, fought and then finally, I was able to achieve something online. However, it also has a few devastating moments, in which I thought that everything was lost for ever. One of those moments was when my home computer was unable to function. After some fiddling, shifting my old desktop to the new one and more fiddling I was successful in restoring all the work stored on the drive. It took me three days of sweating and tears. But, I've learned one crucial point: Dropbox and personal file servers can be used to automate or manually back up my work from the day. It's certainly not the best option. The more data you keep on the internet, the more is required to keep it all online. It's a simple and secure process. It's simple to download and is downloaded from any place there is internet. What happens in those instances when access to the internet isn't feasible? These are the times when I am glad to have my laptop around with me, it is like my last safe place to backup my data. https://telegra.ph/Dont-forget-to-remember-the-place-we-came-from-02-20 I have two drives there with one for each HDD. This allows them to duplicate each other, and assures that one copy will remain in case of a failure. I copy only data there, usually, so I very rarely do I need to make the laptop work. This way I'm hoping that two drives will not go out in the same day..<img width="475" src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/dBAHW45izoQ/maxresdefault.jpg">Another day of great sadness was a few months ago. As I said above I ensure that I don't lose any of my work. I now copy the work multiple times and keep it accessible wherever internet access is accessible. This was Periscope. It was a tool I frequently used a several years ago. Even last summer in 2020, during the disturbances, I was able to do a few live streams. Now Periscope TV is closing down and all the videos will be gone within a couple of weeks. What can I do? All the videos need to be downloaded to my laptop so that they can be saved offline. These videos are very close to my heart. They were the last time I spent with my best friend in Covid. The site is one that I regularly visit. It allows me to download videos from Youtube and Instagram, as well as Facebook - which are some of the places where I keep most of my live streams. I am passionate about politics and underground movements. Therefore, I film many live events, save them, post some on my Youtube channel, and then backup it on my laptop whenever it's over. This is me. It allows me to share Youtube video via Facebook but also to upload the video to Facebook. The uploaded video will be then its own video. In fact I am able to store more than 3TB of live feeds over the last 8 years. Periscope Lives will not go away.. It helps me greatly. It's perfect. You can play the video you want to download using Periscope, Youtube, or Facebook. Copy the URL by using the share link. Then I visit the video downloading site then copy the URL and hit the button. In just a few minutes, I am presented with a variety of options to download videos. Not every site can help with Periscope, but this one is a good choice, it is able to handle m3u8 files that other sites usually download on your behalf.. They work, don't get me wrong but they're actually based on fragments from online video feeds which means that playing the file within VLC while it's fantastic, isn't really achieving the goal as the video isn't in your system It's online and plays from online, when player loads small fragments of video 1 by 1...Windows copy is a method to merge these fragments into one file. This happens because of the format for video Mpeg TS (or transport stream) which is used for video fragments. Each fragment has all the data needed for video decoding. This allows every streamer to stream seamlessly starting from the middle. The program also stores data on the browser, as it downloads 360x10 second files instead of the standard 1hr file. So, even if you only watch 25 seconds of the stream it will only download 4-6 fragments. (It receives 3-4 fragments from the current 25 second period, plus 1 or 2 additional fragments should you keep watching the stream). This greatly reduces the total amount of data needed to stream the stream for the full 25 seconds.
